When U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho started the process three years ago to bring a Department of Veterans Affairs clinic to Middleburg, there were just 4,500 veterans in the region enrolled in the program as well as skepticism about whether it was the right location for a new facility.
Yoho, R-Gainesville, said he had to assemble leaders from the business and veteran communities in Clay County to more than double that number to show a new primary care clinic would get sufficient use from the county’s roughly 29,000 veterans.
The work paid off and Yoho announced Wednesday that the initial contract for a 10-year lease was awarded for the new clinic at 400 College Drive.
