The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs submitted a legislative proposal to Congress this week that would ease the rules for veterans seeking medical attention outside VA medical facilities, potentially sending more veterans to the private sector for care.
Central among the proposed changes is an end to the 2014 rule allowing veterans to seek medical care from a private provider only if they cannot get an appointment at a VA facility within 30 days or if they live more than 40 miles from a VA facility.
